Eagles Fall Short Against Patriots, After An Awful Evening Of Offense

Welp…

The last time I saw these two teams play, I was a lot more happy with the outcome…

But instead, we are left with these results…

After an extremely frustrating loss at the Linc on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles fall to 5-5 on the season, with just 6 games remaining on the schedule. Philly proved they could hang with the Patriots, but just could not come up with anything offensively in the second half.

The players along with the coaching staff of the Eagles should fully believe they got in their own way of winning this football game.

Heading into the matchup, both teams were coming into the game fresh off a bye week.

Luckily enough for the Eagles, they had the chance to host the Pats where Wentz (up to that point…) had a record of 5-1 throwing 10 TD’s to just 1 INT within the last 6 starts at home. Historically, the Birds have had quite the home field advantage whenever playing in Philadelphia.

Early in the game, the Eagles offense came out humming with a heavy dose of Miles Sanders. With RB Jordan Howard out, the lead role was shifted back Sanders. Sanders has been the only rookie running back to eclipse 300 yards rushing & receiving this season.

Miles Sanders (26), jumps over a Patriots defender (53), looking to advance past the line of scrimmage.

After the first drive, Bill Belichick was able to game plan against Sanders & not let him beat the Pats defensive scheme. You did not hear too much from them for the remainder of the game.

A big PI penalty set up on Boston Scott, resulted in a 52 gain, eventually ending 42 yard FG by Jake Elliot

Dallas Goedert scored on a 50 50 ball which was initially ruled an INT, but overturned after official review. The refs did not seem to be in Philly’s favor, despite them playing at home.

After the TD…Doug Pederson and Eagles could not do anything offensively.

On 3rd down, Philly converted just 23% the entire evening…

Lane Johnson leaving the field early hurt the Eagles immensely. While being evaluated in the locker room for a concussion, the Eagles O-line was never the same in Johnson’s absence. Another injury to Jason Peters also contributed to the cause. Carson was under constant duress for the remainder of the matchup.

New England’s top ranked defense triumphed Philadelphia in the second half.

In addition, Wentz’s supporting cast was very short handed.

As previously mentioned, Jordan Howard did not play, alongside with Alshon Jeffery. This hurt the Eagles, as the wide receivers only accounted for……………………………22 YARDS COMBINED IN THE SECOND HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nelson Agholor: 4 recs 40 Yards…

J.J Arcega-Whiteside: 1 rec 19 yards…

Jordan Matthews:  1 rec 6 yards…

Nelson Agholor comes up short on a 4th down with 0:58 seconds left in the contest.

The mishaps on offense were magnified even more since the Eagles played amazing on  the defensive side.

Philly was able to pressure Brady effectively, causing him to only throw for 216 yards and no TD’s.

With Brady having a bad game, Belichick dug into his bag of tricks much like Pederson did in Super Bowl LII.

I hate that I mentioned it, but since we are on the topic, I guess we have to address the issue…

Eagles fans…SUPER BOWL LII WAS OVER 500 DAYS AGO! These two teams are drastically different from what they were back in early 2018, and we clearly witnessed this on Sunday.

ANYWAYS…New England’s only TD came by the arm of Julian Edleman, a former QB at Kansas State.

Julian Edelman (11) stands tall against the Malcom Jenkins (27) rush, before tossing a TD to fellow WR Phillip Dorsett

Other than Edelman’s trickery, NE only scored courtesy of 3 FG’s by Nick FolkPhilly’s defense tight-end’d up as usual in the red-zone.

Overall New England won the game, contrary to Philadelphia hanging around until the closing seconds.

Moving forward, surrounding Carson Wentz with talent should be the Eagles top priority this offseason. Howie Roseman could have made some mid-season upgrades at the trade deadline this season, but opted to go in other direction.

“Hopefully” he has a plan…this offense is atrocious.

Send help A.S.A.P!

The Eagles had three drops on offense…that’s also the same amount of dropped INT’s the defense had against Tom Brady

The Eagles perfectly align with their record of 5-5…they are just an average team at best.

Despite a tough loss, the Birds are still in contention with the Cowboys win the NFC East, despite being a game behind in the rankings. Unfortunately, we will have to turn right around and root for the Pats this coming week as they host the hated Cowboys.

Let’s Go Patriots!…That was really difficult to type.

Philadelphia will ALSO have to take care of their own business as Seattle travels to the Linc next week…

At this point, a sixth loss will be crucial in the  NFC standings…

We shall see how Philly will fare in their next game.
