For the third time in four seasons under HC Doug Pederson, the Philadelphia Eagles are poised for another playoff run! After winning the Super Bowl in 2017, Pederson announced during the teams parade down broad street that this was “The New Norm” for fellow Philly fans.

It seems as though adversity is the new norm here in Philadelphia. For the second consecutive season, Pederson and his team have went on late season surges down the stretch in order to participate in the NFL playoff tournament. Within the last 3 seasons, the birds have a combined record of 10-2 in contests that were played after Week 14. That is clutch coaching

This year, the task was the toughest. Heading into the matchup against NYG, Philadelphia had 10 starters out due to injury. The number of injuries even increased to 12 total players, as Miles Sanders and Brandon Brooks both got banged up during this game.

The resiliency of this Eagles team is virtually unmatched. “Next Man Up” has been a motto that has been preached the entire season, and has most certainly been reflected in the teams play this season.

It is tough to say how far Philly can go this postseason, but at least they were able to win the NFC East with such a depleted roster. With their recent playoff berth, the 2019 Eagles are only the 7th team in the NFL’s 100 year history to make the postseason with a record of 5-7

Since the 5-7 start, team captain and leader Carson Wentz had played out of his mind.

During the Birds 4 game win streak (all vs. NFC East opponents) Wentz has thrown 7 TD’s, averaged 300 yards a game, and 0 INT’s over this December stretch. Due to all of the injuries, 78% of Wentz’s passes have been completed to TE’s and RB’s.

Players such as Greg Ward Jr, Boston Scott, Joshua Perkins, and of course Miles Sanders and Dallas Goedert have stepped up over the stretch as well.

Carson created Eagles history last night as well. He became the first ever Philadelphia Eagles QB to throw for over 4,000 yards in a single season! Additionally, also broke an NFL record for breaking the 4,000 yard accolade without a 500 yard wide receiver!

Next week at 4:40pm, the Eagles will host the Seahawks for the fourth and final game of Wild Card Weekend. This game will be a rematch of Week 12, where the Eagles lost the battle of the birds 17-9.

With the continuation of coaching and confidence, the Eagles do have the potential to possibly make some noise in the playoffs.

While everyone rides them off, they view it as an extra challenge. The “Underdog Mentality” is suddenly being re-embraced here in Philly.
