The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with their former Left Tackle Jason Peters, better yet known as the “Bodyguard” amongst the Philadelphia faithful.

The former 2x All-Pro and 9x Pro Bowler will be playing in his 17th NFL season (12th with PHI) when he hits the field in 2020.

The 38-year old  parted ways with the Eagles organization at the start of Free Agency, but have since rejoined forces after some unforeseen events occurred.

JP returns to the Birds on a one-year $6 million deal, with $3 million guaranteed.

On June 15th, All-Pro Right Guard Brandon Brooks tore his ACL while rehabbing from off-season shoulder surgery, finishing his 2020 campaign before the season even started. Brooks was an absolute baller on the Eagles offensive line. Just to provide some context, Brooks did not allow a single sack in 2019…

JP will will now replace Brooks’s role at Right Guard, solidifying continuity on the O-Line. Second Year Player Andre Dillard now start at Left Tackle, Isaac Seumalo is the Left Guard, Jason Kelce plays Center, Peters is at Right Guard, and Lane Johnson will sure up the Right Tackle spot.

ProFootballFocus recently released a list ranking Philadelphia at No. 10 for the “Best Offensive Lines in the League”.

The article stated:

The Eagles annually boast one of the best offensive lines in the league, and they finished No. 1 at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season. It will be difficult to repeat that feat without star left tackle Jason Peters and PFF All-Pro guard Brandon Brooks.”

“Replacing Brooks at right guard will be a big task, as he’s among the top two or three guards in the league. 2018 sixth-round pick Matt Pryor will be in the mix in addition to rookie fourth-rounder Jack Driscoll. Pryor graded out at 60.9 on 143 snaps as a rookie, while Driscoll was one of our favorite developmental tackle options in the draft — though he’s a much better pass protector than run blocker. The Eagles should be strong again up front, but with Peters and Brooks out of the equation, it will be difficult to achieve another top-five ranking.”

The loss of JP was mentioned serval times on PFF’s examination…now since he was re-signed with the Birds, expect their rankings to improve as the season progresses.

Eagles Offensive Line coach Jeff Stoutland has revealed he doesn’t know if he will ever see another player of JP’s caliber.

Bringing back JP was one of the better moves the Birds could have made, and it will be satisfying to see Bodyguard finish up his HOF Career in Midnight Green.
